Welcome to School Council! I am Kim Hancock and my two sons attend Bowman in Grades 2 and 5. I originally became involved with School Council because I wasn't able to be at the school during the week and I wanted to feel connected to the school. I always thought that School Council was about fundraising and volunteering. And partly it is, but it is also much more than that.
School Council is an advisory body of parents and community representatives that work together with administrators, staff and students to improve student achievement and success. We educate each other on what is happening in the school from all perspectives and we set goals and collaborate to achieve them. Recently, we have applied for grants, organized fundraisers and worked with educational partners to raise the money to initiate and maintain an Instrumental Music program for Charles Bowman. This is an example of our whole school community coming together to enrich the school for all of our children.
We are always happy to see new faces at our meetings and welcome you to join us at any time without commitment. Our meetings for 2016/17 are listed below. If you are interested in finding out more about School Council or if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. You are also able to stay updated on all School Council activity by checking out the School Council group in Edsby. Also, we are often in need of volunteers to help out with events, pizza lunches, etc, so if you are not interested in attending meetings but would like to help out, please contact me.
I look forward to seeing you!
